I chose this because I loved this scene as a kid. The song "Duel of the Fates" tied everything together perfectly, leaving me on the edge of my seat as I watched. Amazing choice! I loved this scene as a kid too. It's probably my second favorite fight scene in the Star Wars universe, the first being Darth Vader's fight scene in Rogue One. I think you did a great job describing the meanings behind the song. The whole series is about the struggle between light and dark having the this song in Anakins origin movie definitely sets that theme for the rest of the series. I liked how you describe the choral chants as haunting and foreboding. The chant give the song a dark and dooming timbre that help make the song so great.
ReplyDeleteThis scene and music brought me back to elementary school. All of the Star Wars lightsaber duels and their accompanied music are elite examples of the fictive dream. The "Duel of Fates" scene is so iconic and it's hard to not be engaged when that song is playing. The fast paced tempo is crucial for building the tension of the scene. I agree with the social message being a power struggle between good and evil, and this can apply to many aspects of life.
